What is SEPA Direct Debit?
SEPA Direct Debit is a payment service for collections in Greece and abroad. It is addressed to debtors who hold payment accounts in credit institutions of the European SEPA countries.
It applies to transactions in euros and allows a beneficiary organisation to collect amounts from the account of a debtor, provided that the debtor has completed and signed a direct debit mandate (authorisation) to the beneficiary organisation or their bank.
The debtor and the beneficiary organisation must have a payment account in a credit institution established in SEPA. Additionally, the credit institution executing the direct debit transaction must participate in the system.
The system can be used for one-time or recurring direct debit payments and there is no limit on the amount of money, unless chosen by the debtor.
When you receive a Eurobank notification
If you have given a direct debit mandate (authorisation) to the beneficiary organisation or company participating in the Core scheme, your account is charged without requiring your approval.
The Core scheme is addressed to consumers and is typically used for automatic payment of utility bills or other private debts.
To better protect you against fraud, Eurobank sends you a notification. This way, you are informed about the direct debit mandate to have your account charged by an organisation or a company abroad.
If you recognise the mandate, no further action is required. Eurobank will proceed with charging your account as usual.

If you do not recognise the direct debit mandate
Contact directly the organisation or company where the mandate originated.
Otherwise, call EuroPhone Banking immediately on 2109555000 and press 9 when you hear the recorded message or come to one of our branches.
You may submit a request to:
- Withdraw or cancel a standing order.
- Get refunded if your account has been charged, within a specific time frame.
- Get your account excluded from standing orders from specific organisations.
- Have your account blocked, so that standing orders may not be charged.
Right to a direct debit refund
If you submit a request for a refund, you authorise Eurobank to return the direct debit payment issued through SEPA Direct Debit.
You may submit a request to:
- Get refunded for any direct debit payment (available within 56 days from the date of the direct debit payment).
- Get refunded for an unauthorised payment if you have not signed or have withdrawn a direct debit mandate (available up to 13 months from the date of the direct debit payment).
