Eurobank expresses its support to civilians affected by the devastating fires at Evia, Attica and Peloponnese and takes part in the immediate relief actions announced by the Hellenic Bank Association (for more information, visit www.hba.gr).
Moreover, in the context of its corporate social responsibility, Eurobank considers it has also the duty to contribute, directly and significantly, to the long-term initiatives towards protecting Greek forests against fire and restoring the country’s natural wealth, currently under threat due to the new global reality of climate change. In that respect, it will donate €1 million (one million euros) for a set of initiatives relating to increasing firefighting equipment to tackle forest fires, enhancing operational capacity of civil protection, contributing to sustainable reforestation of burnt forest land and protection of natural environment and promoting environmental education and awareness with a special focus on children and young people.
This, new, donation complements the Bank’s latest sponsorship of €546,000 to the Hellenic Fire Service. Eurobank has actively demonstrated its long-standing support to Greek municipalities, affected by destructive fires over the past years, such as Mati, Marathonas and Ileia. The new initiatives will be specified and the amounts will be allocated based on needs, in consultation with state authorities and in cooperation with civil society organisations operating in these fields. Finally, Eurobank will encourage and support respective volunteering actions launched by the Group’s employees.
