We actively invest in the energy efficiency upgrade of our existing real-estate portfolio, to improve our carbon footprint. In the area of hybrid vehicles our goal is to further contribute to a sustainable future.

Green buildings

Our strategy is to position our investment and own-use property portfolio towards high-end, environmentally friendly buildings, which are in high demand by multinationals and Greek corporations.

Converting assets into energy-efficient buildings

We have launched several projects to convert prime assets into energy-efficient green buildings, as these help demonstrate our sustainability performance during our operation. Through these green buildings we:

  • Lower running costs.
  • Maximise returns through market value.
  • Attract and retain tenants looking for desirable places to live and work in.
  • Provide our people with healthier workplaces.
  • Create a low emission portfolio, friendly to the environment, and improve the local micro-climate.

Green buildings certifications

Aiming to keep greening our real-estate portfolio, we choose green building certifications because they help us validate the sustainability value of our assets.

Every year, we aim to rate selected assets within our portfolio with the purpose of gradually being certified according to the standards set by international organisations.

19 of our building have been certified as green buildings according to LEED/BREEAM, in December 2023.

A modern green building in the centre of Athens

We recognise the need to adapt the urban landscape to the demands of the climate crisis and to improve local biodiversity. This is why we created a green building in the centre of Athens, which now houses the new Eurobank Headquarters. With the new building we:

  • Promote a sustainable operation model for business properties.
  • Highlight the growth prospects arising from building development in the city centre.

The design, construction and operation of the Headquarters align with Eurobank's Sustainable Development Strategy.

The building has received LEED for Core & Shell certification at the Gold level, a globally recognised symbol of excellence in the built environment created by the US Green Building Council.

The design and comprehensive renovation of the building were based on sustainable building principles with the aim of:

  • Achieving optimal energy and environmental performance of the building
  • Rationalising the required natural resources
  • Quantifying project performance reliably

Hybrid vehicles

We are committed to advancing electro-mobility and further reducing our energy footprint. To this end, we promote hybrid and electric vehicle rental. Gradually we:

  • Replace our corporate fleet with plug-in hybrid technology vehicles.
  • Install charging stations at company buildings in Athens.

More specifically, we have installed 24 charging stations for hybrid and electric vehicles at our buildings:

  • Nea Ionia – 8 stations
  • 8 Othonos Street – 5 stations
  • Filellinon Street – 1 station
  • Port Plaza, Piraeus – 8 stations
  • Tavros – 2 stations
